Computer Board Table

idea by david.maloney1
Computer Board Table

Describe your creation.

:

For years I've been throwing old computer boards into a box in the garage to someday recycle them into some sort of project. It finally popped in my head to create a table with them using some of the black walnut from a tree we cut down a few years ago and had milled in the yard with a portable mill.

It's basically two tables. One internal table to screw the boards to and another set of wood frames with glass that slide on top of the board table. It's basically a wood diorama with LED lights. It will be very easy to swap out the computer boards with something else once we get tired of the look of the boards. I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Ok I am disappointed to see you have dropped to third. I think "realistically" this is something the common person can visualize as a great way to recycle. The "techies" and "artsie fartsies" are a small niche in the market. I hope everyone else who visits will think practical and not "Star Wars" or "Abastract Art"... you did a great job!!!!

This is really the most imaginative and useful design, I think. Question though.... is it hard to clean?

This design screams "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated". Had that Borg cube 1.0 look to it. The LED lighting really sets it off. In other words, it's pretty darn cool.

Thank you. Just the one exists for now. I've sent a few people the drawings to make their own but don't know if they ever built them. So many projects.. so little time!

Awesome use of old computer equipment. I would love to get rid of all the computer parts in my basement and have them put to good use.

Thanks. The table is primarily made up of boards from an old Intergraph 6780 machine built in the late 80s. They had nice big boards. This was my first real workstation that I learned 3d modeling and rendering on. The table was a good way to keep this old computer around once I could no longer find parts to keep it working.
