Deconstruct for GOOD

Each year over 150 million computer products get tossed into landfills. With millions of tech-related gadgets adding to our nation’s waste, innovative alternatives for disposing of these products is a growing need. That’s why VIZIO and GOOD Maker are challenging you to create and not waste. Why trash your old PC when you can transform it into something creative, original, and GOOD?

To all do-gooders, tech junkies, college students, fashionistas, designers, and everyone in between: Deconstruct for GOOD wants to see what you can make out of that old PC. Have you ever wanted to take your old PC apart and make something else out of it? Do you ever dream of creating art out of hard drives and PC boards? Show us your DIY skills and Deconstruct for GOOD. If you have an old PC headed to waste and a brain loaded with creative ideas, this is your chance to shine.

We want you to take apart your old PC for the sake of good—whether it’s creating an educational tool, a usable product, or an inspiring piece of work. The winning idea will receive a brand-new VIZIO All-In-One PC, a VIZIO Thin + Light, and a yearlong subscription to GOOD Magazine. Send us a photo or YouTube link that documents your creative process from July 10 to August 21. The GOOD community will vote for the winning idea from August 22 to September 5, and the winner will be announced on September 12.

Submission tips:

• Include a photo or video of your project. Photos should be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format, at least 570 × 345 pixels and no larger than 10MB. To include a video, use a YouTube URL.
• Write at least 3-5 sentences that explain what you have made from an old PC.

• This Challenge is open for submissions from July 10 to August 21 (noon Pacific Time). Only US-based organizations and individuals are eligible apply. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
• Projects will be featured on this page and public voting will be open from August 22 to September 5 (noon Pacific Time).
• The project with the most votes will receive a VIZIO All-In-One PC, a VIZIO Thin + Light, and a yearlong subscription to GOOD Magazine.
• In order to vote, log in with your GOOD account. If you don’t have a GOOD account, it’s free to join. All you need is an email address or a Facebook account to register. You will be emailed a link that you need to click in order to validate your address.
